Sol Bamba, head coach of Turkish League side Adanaspor and former Ivory Coast international, has passed away at the age of 39.

The news was confirmed by the club on its official Twitter account.

“Our coach Souleymane Bamba, who fell ill before yesterday’s match against Manisa, was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital and, sadly, lost his battle for life there,” the club said in a statement. “We extend our condolences to our community, especially to his family.”

A product of PSG’s academy, Bamba had a long playing career with stints at Trabzonspor, Leicester City, Palermo, Leeds United, Cardiff City, and several other clubs. He joined Adanaspor in July this year and had managed the team in four matches before his untimely passing.

In 2021, Bamba was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He underwent chemotherapy and returned to play professionally until the end of the 2021/22 season.
